Delta Does It

Emerging on the Australian scene in 2003 with her debut album Innocent Eyes, Delta Goodrem has gone from strength to strength and is hands down one of the most talented singers Australia has ever produced.

It's been known for a while that this songstress has been attempting to break the American market which is a tough thing for Aussies to do. Kylie Minogue has been attempting such a thing for decades. Well it appears last night was Goodrem's moment - unprepared and definitely not planned on.

Dancing with the Stars which airs on the abc and has over 15 million viewers each week is now in it's 12th season proving to be a hit show. Originally invited to come and perform a duet with Michael Bolton of I'm Not Ready, Goodrem ended up filling in at the last minute for Adele who was under the weather and simply could not sing for the night. Never performing the song, Goodrem approached the stage in an absolutely stunning floor length gown and belted out Caroline King's hit Natural Woman with such raw emotion it covers you in goosebumps.

She absolutely nailed it! The standing ovation you see from the crowd wasn't for the dancers but for her. Delta certainly put her mark on the town and will be the water cooler talk for days to come.

This woman hands down deserves it. In 2004 Delta was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. In 2005, I personally was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Delta was at the peak of her new found fame thanks to her role as Nina in Neighbours both in Australia and the UK. I was merely an HSC student living in Sydney.

With all the attention, beauty and talent she has, you would think Delta would be living the life. She certainly is but is the most grounded celebrity out there. Just days before my final chemo, I had a phone call. It came through from Germany. It was Delta Goodrem. She'd been passed word (through a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend) about my diagnosis and dropped me a line purely to say hello and wish me well.

That's right. Delta was about to fly back to the UK and took a moment from her busy schedule to contact a young girl on the other side of the world she had never met to simply push her on and keep her spirits high during an incredibly low, dark time in her life.

That to me is the most precious and outstanding thing anyone could have ever done and for that I am forever thankful. She will do great things for this world and it won't just be through her lyrics and nightingale voice.

As Delta says - Love & Light
